I wish more employers realised how beneficial background music could be to their companies.
It’s not only great for their employees who get to listen to it while they work, but it does tend to increase productivity drastically as well. My philosophy – and one which many career coaches promote – is that a happy employee is a productive employee.
And what better way to increase those feel-good vibes than by music?
Don’t get me wrong though, I’m not talking about loud, heavy metal music or anything…
Just something soft in the background.
Listening to nothing but the sound of your fingers drumming on a keyboard and the incoming telephone ringing is so demotivating it’s not even funny.
Well, that’s my opinion anyway. I worked in 3 companies where we were allowed to have the radio playing background music and it was incredible to see the difference it made.
Now, as I work from home, it’s even more quiet and I absolutely have to have some kind of music on in the background.
Sometimes I listen to the radio, but when I’m really trying to concentrate, I don’t want to hear all the jibber jabber from the radio DJs or distract myself singing along to the latest hits from Rihanna or Beyonce.
That’s where my new found love for YouTube has come in. Especially the many different types of concentration and motivational music they have on there to play softly (or loudly) in the background while you work.
