It’s the little things…
Truth be told, I wasn’t really one for enjoying the small things in life up until a few years ago. Now, I practically live for them.
A cup of coffee in the sun, a bath with incense and candles, my yoga DVD, making food together… those are the things I crave. Mostly they happen sporadically, but some days I manage to get what I like to call a perfect day – when a lot of those small things all magically come together.
Last week Sunday was one of those days…
We caught a break from the howling wind and rain that’s been overshadowing Somerset West for the last few weeks. Sun and clear blue skies meant hitting the beach for an early morning walk before 9am – before the crowds arrived.
And look who I convinced to join me? FIRST time we’ve EVER gone walking on the beach together… he won’t say so, but I think he secretly enjoyed every second of it.
(I know so because I saw him posting photos of our walk on his instagram!)
Nothing like the smell of the ocean on a deserted beach. HEAVEN.
After the hunger pangs kicked in and our legs started feeling all good and stretched out, we were homeward bound. I couldn’t get enough of the sun, so I savoured enjoying a cup of coffee outside while Jinx kept me company…
Just before midday, we headed out again. This time to the ROOT44 market between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. I tell you, going to that market almost feels like I’m on a mini holiday. There are bands playing, there’s tons of delicious foodie treats, clothing bargains that you won’t find at the mall, and just an awesome vibe.
I managed to walk past and ignore (mostly) all the sweet temptations, including these…
But I couldn’t resist grabbing one of these mouthwatering smoothies. The peanut butter one caught my eye and I HAD to have it.
Oh my goodness, it was so good!
I’m going to have to try them all…
Pity there wasn’t much variety as far as gluten-free food goes, but I did manage to find some tasty vegetarian rice paper rolls which were pretty yummy. Geoff had two seriously good looking gourmet pies. We sat in the shade, enjoying the breeze and finishing our lunch before deciding that it was time to head home. Laziness was creeping in – big time.
On the way out, our eyes caught sight of these gorgeous fresh daisies. I’ve never seen daisies like this before, they are huge! The best part was picking which 10 we wanted for only R35.
When we got home, we went off and did our own things before making nachos for supper, and spending the rest of the night watching We’re the Millers, Big Bang Theory and The Middle.
The perfect day. Made up of small things. Mini moments.
I seriously couldn’t ask for more.
