Salted Caramel and 1st Fitness Progress Check in

Since I bought those few Jillian Michaels DVDs in June, I’ve been on a mission to get fit. I’ve got a mild obsession to be at my absolute fittest by the time I turn 31 in December. Don’t ask me why…

“You can eat your way through any amount of fitness. Yes, yes… Jillian, I know. But honestly, there’s just too much good food (bad food) out there to not indulge in. On Friday night we had pizzas – granted mine was gluten-free, so I take comfort in fact that it was somewhat healthy!

But then, I had to go and pop into Woolworths – the newly renovated and extended Woolworths around the corner from us – earlier after work on an empty stomach. NOT a good idea. I walked out with mini marshmallows, cranberry spice tea, milk, some custard tarts for Geoff, and –  one of the most evil inventions on earth –  salted caramel.

Oh my goodness.

This stuff is like peanut butter and chocolate. It’s like an explosion of heaven in your mouth. I’ve seen salted caramel on TV –  on the cooking channels, but I’ve never been able to find it anywhere. Until now.

Last year we had a mini Halloween celebration at home. Yes, I know… It’s an American tradition. But why do they get to have all the fun? So we rented out a couple of scary movies and made cake pops and a good attempt at popcorn with our own version of salted caramel poured over. It wasn’t a bad first attempt, but now I know where to get the really good stuff!

As far as my fitness progress over the last 3 months goes… I can definitely notice a difference. I don’t feel like dying half way through one of those insane workout DVDs. This woman doesn’t mess around. But that’s good – it’s what I need. I manage to get in about 4 x half an hour workouts before or after work each week. I’m on level 2 now on most of the workouts… there are 4 levels on some of them. Who needs the gym?! 

Is anyone else as obsessed with this salted caramel stuff as I am? I really need to stop thinking about it. Apples, bananas, oranges…. salted caramel, damn, it’s not working.

  1. We don’t have Woolworths around here anymore either! I used to love going there when I was little.

    OMG…you had me with the Carmel….I love any kind of Carmel. Popcorn, apples, plain…wrap it up! I’ll take it!

  2. Okay, first of all, caramel is my WEAKNESS. I have no willpower when it comes to anything with caramel in it. Haha!
    And you’re right: who needs the gym? I walk on the trail behind my house, but I have these salsa dancing dvd’s…maybe I’ll give them a try. 🙂
    And lastly: did you know – since we’re on the same freaking wavelength – we have a Woolworth’s here? They have a soda fountain and you can order desserts galore! I love that place! While you’re there, you can look at artwork, too. 🙂

      Salsa dancing? Hmmm…that sounds like fun! Oh no, desserts galore is not good hehehe! I think that’s one reason I’m glad little old Cape Town doesn’t have that many cupcake or dessert shops, especially where we live. That would be baaaaaad! 😉

  3. We used have Woolworth’s here when I was a kid and my grandmother actually loved that store. Not sure what to that store, because there are definitely none near us anymore and haven’t been for quite some time. I happen to love salted carmel and if I bought them, could probably eat a whole bag by myself. Come to think of it, last year Kevin brought home a whole box of assorted goodies as a thank you for a company project he had worked on there were 3 different bags of caramels in that box. Guess who ate them all? Yup, I did and again this is why I don’t buy them, because I have no will power, lol!!

      Haha! Janine I know exactly what you mean! I polished off a packet of chips this weekend that was brought home… I have NO WILLPOWER with those things, and that’s exactly why they’re not (normally) in the cupboards 😉
