10 Quick Tips on How to Steal Your “Happy Place” Every Day

Daydreaming about escaping to a cabin at the edge of a lake, surrounded by nature for an entire week…

Now that’s my idea of a “happy place.” Can you just imagine? Lying on the grass with the sun warming your back, butterflies fluttering around, the smell of pollen in the air, the sounds of birds landing on the lake, and a book you can’t tear yourself away from for a single second…

Heaven. On. Earth.

But, see that’s my problem…. Daydreaming too much and not living in the present.

I’m trying… really trying to be more mindful about the small things every day. It’s challenging, I’m not going to lie. Especially when you’ve got your routine all mapped out. And especially if you’re a perfectionist like me.

Something weird happened to me this weekend though. I strayed from my routine a little, and I guess you could say I “stole” my “happy place” on Saturday.

Never in a million years would you find me sprawled out on the couch that early on a weekend morning instead of doing the run-of-the-mill house chores, washing, or grocery shopping. I like to get that all out the way and then relax.

So there I was on my way to the kitchen to get the cleaning stuff, and then I noticed this cream and tan blob of fur out of the corner of my eye. There was Sassy –  our 15-year-old blue-eyed ‘kitty’ – spread out on the couch in absolute bliss. (She’s never downstairs during the day).

And then for some or other reason I just stopped. What’s the rush? I wondered. I mean come on, the broom isn’t going to run away. So that was my Saturday morning. Lazying around and catching up on Grey’s Anatomy and CSI with ‘madam’. So strange.

But you know, it actually felt great. To just chill out and take in the moment for what it was.

Since it’s Monday, I thought it might be good to start the week with a bit of “oomph,” seen as I have no recipes to put up here right now.
